A couple weeks ago I went to the most epic concert of my life. I made an effort to take a (blurry) picture of each artist:
The Naked and Famous
I had never heard of these guys before the show, but they had a pretty good sound. They had both male and female vocals, making for some nice call and answer and harmonies. They played one song that people apparently knew because everyone started screaming and singing along with it!
Airborne Toxic Event
I almost saw these guys over the summer. I instantly fell in love with “Sometime Around Midnight” when I first heard it. Though they played that song very well, their other material left much to be desired. It was neither memorable nor interesting. The lead singer would say something about politics, then loud guitars would come in and I couldn’t hear what was going on anymore…
Cage the Elephant
You know these guys from their hit, “Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked.” I really like that song, with its cool slide guitar and catchy chorus. These guys had a very cool sound and were fun to watch. Their other songs were alright and they had a lot of energy, but it wasn’t really my kind of music.
Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds
I’ve been meaning to blog about NG since I heard his debut solo album on release day. It quickly became one of my favorite albums of the year! You should definitely check it out. He’s penned some classics with Oasis that you all know and love, and certainly didn’t disappoint at the show. He played several off his new album, including the single “If I Had a Gun,” and a few Oasis hits, including My favorite, “Don’t Look Back in Anger,” and the timeless classic “Wonderwall.” Although he didn’t sing “Wonderwall” for Oasis (Liam did) it was amazing to hear it played live by Noel. I had a great time singing along to all these songs!
Death Cab for Cutie
I saw DCFC a few months ago, and they put on a pretty good show. They’re one of my favorite bands, and I was excited to see them again, and wondering what they would do differently. They played the classics, “Soul Meets Body,” “The New Year,” and “Crooked Teeth,” as well as some new ones, like an amazing rendition of “You Are a Tourist” They were really playing with emotion, and it was a lot of fun to watch!
Florence + the Machine
I’ve heard her song “The Dog Days are Over” way too many times on the radio, but nothing could have prepared me for how epic her performance would be. She floated gracefully to the microphone, and preceded to blow us away with her amazing voice, pounding drums, and intense light show. This was one of best live performances I have ever seen and I am a new Florence + the Machine fan. She had a great mix of chill songs and intense songs, and I really enjoyed this as the finale to this fantastic night! If Florence + the Machine is playing in a concert hall near you, don’t miss out!
