The Soloists Music

New Music Tuesday: AG Silver

June 26, 2012 | EVB

I must admit, the San Diego County Fair was the last place I expected to find a new band that I love.  That’s just what happened Friday night.  I went to see Grand Funk Railroad, who put on a great show, but afterwards while walking around we stumbled upon another band playing, AG Silver.  The first thing I noticed as they played in the background was the excellent drumming.  It always sticks out to me when a band uses drumming as more than just the rhythm.  At that point, we decided to go stand by the stage to listen.  I was blown away by the lead singer’s vocal ability and emotion, and I’m not exaggerating when I say this, they had some of the best stage presence that I’ve ever seen in a live show.  If I had to describe their sound, it would be a combination of Coldplay, U2, and Fallout Boy.  Now you’re probably curious, how can these sounds come together?

Well, it gets better!  After the show,  the band came down and we chatted with them for a while.  They were from Grand Rapids and just finished recording their latest album, Hold On, near Ann Arbor!  We ended up buying all their albums, and had listened to all of them by the next morning. My Favorite songs are “Undefaio” and “Love Keeps No Score.”  Both have very cool three part harmonies.  Other songs that really stood out to me are “Hold On,” which includes some beat boxing from the bassist, and “Miss Michigan,” a song about dealing with the winter in Michigan.

I hope you check out AG Silver and enjoy their music!
